Planning !!

Welcome back, guys! Today is the most important part to discuss: planning. On this project, I decided to work with my classmates Isabella and Mariana. I had worked with them on a couple projects in the past and I felt that we all worked well together so it was a no-brainer.

We began by figuring our the topic. We knew that we wanted to do something that was relatable to a lot of people so we started brainstorming ideas and throwing them out in the open to see what stuck. After careful consideration, we decided to go with the topic of how language barriers cause immigrants to struggle when creating businesses in the US. We decided on this topic because all of our parents were immigrants and have started a company from the ground up here in the US. Our parents all decided to come to this country to create a better life for us as well so I feel like this is relatable to many around us. Here, we created a document with all of our planning and brainstorming items.

In this document, we created an planning page for our documentary. This helped organize all of our thoughts onto one page and brainstorm collectively. We decided on making Isabella's dad Javier the subject because he had the most informative story and it seemed more interesting. Once we knew our subject, we began planning out the specifics.
This includes our goal for the production and a collection of shots we wanted to include in our piece.

After this, we made another document outlining our project scene by scene. You can find a picture of this below.

Over here, we finalized the questions and outlined each scene. This outline introduces our subject, Javier, introduces his company, and talks about the challenges he faced when opening his company in the United States. This outline was very helpful because it allowed us to organize ourselves nicely and made the filming a lot easier since we had everything more or less planned out by this time. In this outline, we also typed out the exact questions that would be asked during the interview. This helped us get the bigger picture and organize our mind before filming. This planning portion of the project is always one of the hardest parts but if well executed and carefully thought out, the project will turn out out phenomenal.

hope you enjoyed this and i'll catch you next time !!

Our episodic documentary 'Make It Happen' works to develop the idea of the immigrant experience of establishing a company in the US....
